Am I crazy for thinking this???

If I do this right, I should end up with more options and everything paid in full...

So here is the current lineup

1) 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Kinja'd!!!

Status: Daily Driver / Occasional Trail Rig

Value: $30,000 - $35,000

Owe: $21,500

2) 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena

Kinja'd!!!

Status: Parked (about to be for sale)

Value: $75,000 - $85,000

Owe: $0

3) 1979 Fiat 124 Spider

Kinja'd!!!

Status: Undergoing suspension and cosmetic reconditioning

Value: $8,000 - $10,000

Owe: $0

4) 1980 Yamaha XS650 Bobber

Kinja'd!!!

Status: Not registered for over 2 years, just finished a carb rebuild to get it running again today.

Value: $4,500 - $5,000

Owe: $0

5) 1979 Yamaha XS750 Cafe

Kinja'd!!!

Status: A long way from being complete

Value: $3,000 - $4,000 when complete

Owe: $0

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Garage Current Estimated Cash Value (after subtracting what’s owed on the Jeep) : $99,000 - $117,500

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Okay so now the fun part. The replacements. Part of my job affords me the opportunity to buy vehicles at wholesale prices so if the prices listed seem low, thats why.

1) The Jeep replacement (I honestly cant see living without one):

Kinja'd!!!

A TJ Wrangler, 4.0 manual that I could use as an occasional DD and a trail rig that could spend 90% of its life without doors or a roof to speak.

Cost: $10,000 - $14,000 (not including anything I may change after the fact)

2) C215 CL55 AMG

Kinja'd!!!

No it wont be slammed or stanced or whatever, yes, it will probably be straight piped (or at least have cut outs). In my older age I’ve found that I desire something that can not only message my ass on the way home from work, but also have enough power to rotate the earth backwards.

Cost: $10,000 - 12,000 (seriously, one just ran the auction with 45k for $12)

3) A truck, for truck stuff

Kinja'd!!!

Not sure 100% yet, but I would either go with something like a Ranger and build it out with some fancy off road equipment for the occasional dirt road ruckus, or I would buy an older 3/4 ton diesel like a 250 lariat or king ranch.

Cost: $3,500 - $17,000 (depending on which option I go with)

4) Track toy: Lotus Elise

Kinja'd!!!

I have always always wanted one, they are great on the track, decent reliability thanks to the Toyota motor, easily modified, and decently efficient. Also, all examples have 3 pedals.

Cost: $20,000 - $25,000

5) The rarity: Mazda Eunos Cosmo 20b

Kinja'd!!!

A 3 rotor 20b Cosmo. I have already started speaking with Bird on the idea.

Cost: $15,000 - $17,000 after importation

6) The Sport Bike

Kinja'd!!!

An Aprilia RSV4. I’ve wanted one of these ever since my friend got one. Not the fastest bike on the market by any means, but an all around cool bike IMO.

Cost: $12,000 - $14,000

6) The ‘Daily’ motorcycle

Kinja'd!!!

A Triumph Thruxton. I am a huge fan of Triumph and a huge cafe style fan, so a modern, factory built cafe seems logical. This one would only happen if the budget worked out just right.

Cost: $6,000 - $10,000

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Total new garage estimated cost: $74,500 - $109,000

Which would still leave me with some cash to play with and no car payments...

Also I would have to play musical garage everytime I wanted to take something from inside the garage out, which might be a PITA, but w/e.

Your thoughts oppo? Am I crazy, stupid, both, or awesome?

in stead of the RSV4, why not the touno? its a biugger engine now...and you dont look like your totally ripping your buddy off.

for the truck: it would have to be a tow rig....no point in have two off-road cars (jeep and the ranger)

Go for it dude. The Lotus may be a pain but I don’t know a better track toy. Maybe a Cayman S around the same year? Besides that you solid dude

My buddy wouldnt care, he’s a former AMA racer and has something like 18 bikes from race to dirt to ducatis and harleys, he just ordered one of the MV Agusta dragster 800RR’s which I also contemplated, but for 21k....

The Jeep crawls, the truck would get a V8 and fun parts like a trophy truck....

But a tow rig is also not a bad idea. maybe both...

Get a removable steering wheel and the Lotus is okay. also, I can buy a bolt up 640hp capable turbo kit for it....

I'd go for it. Is your current jeep manual? I really like it, built exactly how I'd want mine (which in all honestly would live 80% on pavement). I'm not exactly a jeep guy, but who doesn't like a nice wrangler? And for rarity, check out what Japanese classics has in stock. They aren't too far from me and they have some pretty rare JDM metal.

I mean, yeah dude, if youre over the stuff youve got or just arent all that in love with it, mix it up. Just remember that the grass isn’t always greener. I sometimes think about what I could buy if I liquidated my fleet, but I always come to the conclusion that I did it right the first time around.

Im similarly afflicted, but I pretty much just keep buying shit without selling anything off. Im at 11 cars and 7 boats last time I counted. Im getting an e9 here pretty soon, then I’ll have to build a third garage. Im real bad with money.

Kinja'd!!! Arben72 > CAR_IS_MI

That looks like a fun list. Personally I’d go with something that can tow instead of a ranger (3/4 ton diesel would be perfect), so you can make the jeep more wild for jeep things, and the track car is just easier to switch slicks and pads at home. Plus if anything breaks, you can trailer it home pretty easily.

if you get a TJ, check the suspension. a buddy of mine flipped his at 15 mph because a tie rod broke. otherwise you’re good.

the merc is a big yes. great DD

for the track car, just mod and track the fiat. cheaper and cooler.

bikes I’m not too knowledgeable about, but if you want a good DD bike, get a used R-series BMW bike.

sport bike? I say used ninja ZX10

“Just mod and track the fiat.”

Fiat is currently set up for auto-x, but you cant turn the fiat into a 400hp turbo track car...

I like the older BMW R80’s, but old bikes have headaches, but with the Triumph I get an old looking bike with new parts.

ZX-no thanks. I’ve ridden most of the Japanese bikes, not a big fan.
